A journey that will immerse you in the culinary and oenological traditions of a part of Tuscany located on the coast. Livorno, seaside town of Medicean origin, will be the starting point to discover a territory rich in tradition and flavor.
We will move inland from the coast first towards the famous Etruscan Coast, and then to Lucca, stopping by to taste the dishes and get to know the wines of these areas: places like the famous wine roads of the Etruscan coast and the hills of Lucca; searching for differences and similarities.

This tour we will get in touch with the local people, such as the Livorno fishermen or the farmers of the surrounding countryside, and all will be enriched by the history and culture of each village we will meet.

Day 1: Arrival and accommodation in Livorno

Arrival at Pisa Airport, where you will be welcomed by your guide. Transfer to your hotel with private transportation, where a welcome tasty appetizer will be waiting for you. After relaxing, you can stroll along the beach in Livorno and admire the beautiful Mascagni Terrace overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, built in 1925. We will dine in one of the most characteristic seafood restaurants in Livorno, where dishes are still cooked according to the ancient recipes of the Livorno fishermen. Options to reach the restaurant walking through the streets of Livorno or by private transportation from the hotel. After dinner we will taste the “Ponce alla Livornese”, a typical coffee-based beverage with alcohol and spices. Return to the hotel by private transportation.

Day 2: Discovering Livorno

The whole day will be dedicated to the visit of streets and buildings most representatives of the Livorno culture, with an eye to some of the recipes that characterize the Livorno’s cuisine. After breakfast we will walk across some of the historical streets of Livorno, we will reach the central market area, called “Mercato delle Vettovaglie” from the second half of 19th century, where we’ll dive in tradition and folklore that only this place can give us. We will have a morning snack tasting another typical specialty of the culinary tradition of Livorno the “Frate” (special donut), before moving in direction of the historical “Venezia” neighborhood so named for the presence of channels, recalling the city of Venice. Waiting us for lunch one of the most famous specialties of the Livornese cuisine “The 5 e 5”, hot chickpea “Torta” inside French bread or flatbread. The place where we’re going is considered the best in Livorno to enjoy this specialty. The afternoon will be free We will meet at the hotel before dinner, and then move with private transportation to a nice and friendly location on the sea Castiglioncello, where we will eat in a typical seafood restaurant overlooking the sea. Return to the hotel with private transportation

Day 3: The wine route and the Etruscan coast

After breakfast we will go by private transportation in the direction of Bolgheri. Driving along the wine route where we will admire some of the most famous vineyards in the world. We will make a visit to one of Chianina farm. This kind of cattle, white and large sized, was in the past used mainly as a labor force by Etruscans and the Romans. We’re moving to the Ornellaia estate, one of the most appreciated wines in the world, where we will take a guided tour of the estate with wine tasting. Lunch will be cooked for us where we will taste some of the finest wines of the cellar, accompanied by typical dishes of the Etruscan coast. Return in the late afternoon to Livorno with private transport. Evening and Dinner will be free. Overnight in our Hotel.

Day 4: Through Art and Religion

This day will be divided in two parts, in the morning we will take a guided tour of the Synagogue, the only one in Italy built after the Second World War. Lunch will be free, and then we will meet in the afternoon to visit the home of Modigliani, the famous painter from Livorno. The visit will include a small tasting. We will return to the Hotel to get ready before dinner. We will then move, with private transport, to the hills of Livorno, where we will taste meat dishes, in our farm-restaurant nestled in the beautiful Mediterranean scrub.Overnight at Hotel.

Day 5: The Livorno channels “I Fossi”.

The morning and lunch will be free. We will meet in the afternoon to embark on our boat that will lead us to the discovery of the Livorno channels. During the visit you will be served a drink. We have dinner in the old 1959restaurant called “The Temple of Cacciucco”. We will taste the real cuisine of Livorno with the opportunity to taste the most famous dish of the culinary tradition of Livorno: The Cacciucco, a fish soup made from different varieties of fish including octopus, squid, redfish and other “poor” seafood. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 6: Strolling around the Colline Lucchesi: between DOC wines and medieval villages.

After breakfast we will transfer by private transportation to Lucca where we will be welcomed by our local guide. Lucca is one of the major art cities of Italy, famous even beyond national borders mainly for its intact city walls of the XV-XVII century, which has also allowed the monumental historical center of the city to remain intact in its original appearance, and therefore to include a variety of architectural assets, as the numerous medieval churches of great architectural richness, and bell towers, Renaissance palaces and monuments of excellent linearity style. We will visit the historical wonders, we will get lost in the small medieval streets and discover the hidden treasures of this city. We’ll proceed by private transportation to the Colline Lucchesi, and visit the picturesque village of Petrognano, with magnificent views over the valley of Lucca and Pistoia. We will stop to taste the wine and oil of Fattoria di Petrognano, after visiting their cellar. Then we continue on foot along the scenic route to the

Then we continue on foot along the scenic route to the medieval village of San Gennaro, a small jewel of Lucca, with its beautiful Romanesque church which houses the terracotta Angel attributed to Leonardo da Vinci. We’ll get, by going through the green countryside of Lucca, at the Fubbiano Farm where we will have a light lunch accompanied by the wines of the farm, all DOC Colline Lucchesi. Also we will taste their extra virgin olive oil on homemade bread. We’re moving to a cottage with a swimming pool nestled in the Lucca hills, to attend a private jazz music concert, tasting local products and a selection of local wines. Day 7: Cooking After breakfast the morning we will move to the countryside farm for a day of cooking. We will participate to a cooking class where we will learn enjoying ourselves some of the secrets of Tuscan cuisine and especially that from Livorno. During the day we will eat what we cook. Return to Livorno with private transport after dinner.
